Flea and Tick collar vs Flea and Tick Liquid Topical

Topical flea and tick products (like Spot On Bug Off) are potent and work immediately after application. 90% of fleas and ticks will be dead within 4 hours of application. Topicals are effective for up to 30 days, after 30 days a new application needs to be applied in order to achieve the same level of protection. Topicals are a good choice when battling an infestation on your animal. The drawback is that your animal is exposed to a much higher active ingredient concentration at one time, whereas the collar releases small amounts of active ingredient over a long period of time. The topical products are good for wiping out a high concentration of pests in a matter of hours.

Flea and Tick collars (like Collar Me Tickless) last for 6 months due to the slow release mechanism of our design, but can take up to 5 days before 90% of fleas and ticks are killed and repelled. The collar maintains over 90% efficacy for 6 months so a new collar needs to be applied every 6 months in order to achieve a high level of protection. Collars are a great choice for prevention and to treat smaller concentrations of pests. When your animal doesn't have fleas or ticks the collar acts as a ward to keep pests from ever getting on them.

We suggest using a topical product like Spot On Bug Off in conjunction with a flea and tick collar like Collar Me Tickless. First, use one application of Spot On Bug Off to wipe out any pests within 4 hours of application. After 4 weeks efficacy will start to decline, so putting a Collar Me Tickless collar on your dog at the beginning of week 4 will allow the collar to take over the protection and prevent pests from coming back. The collar takes up to 5 days to work so applying the collar at the beginning of week 4 will assure that there is no lapse in prevention. Protection will continue for 6 months. After 6 months the collar should be replaced.
